New Year's Resolutions
Coming January 14th! Realize Your Inner Goddess class, which will be held at the Red School Mall in Springfield, IL. Click here for further details.
I debated calling this final installment of 2009's newsletter series "Bah Humbug", but I decided that was childish and unnecessary. After all, it's the New Year! The new decade, another new beginning. And that's the point of this brief newsletter as each of you prepares for your New Year celebrations, be they monumental or less so.
I've spent this week finalizing the first part of my new book, "Realize Your Inner God / Goddess". I asked my husband for feedback on the second draft, and it was honest. I truly admired the risk he took in being honest with me, and immediately reviewed the draft in light of his comments. He was right, and I rewrote with that in mind. The result has been nothing short of miraculous. His comments reminded me to remember and share the joy.
In light of his trusting honesty, as I worked, a small part of my mind worked on my New Year's Resolutions. Traditionally, I haven't liked this process, because it's always made me feel like a failure. This year, however, the process is so much better, so much more positive and filled with joy.
This year, I'm adapting a process I teach in my "Eliminating Procrastination" class. I'm starting with listing everything in my life that I'm ready to let go of, that no longer works for me, and that I'm willing to relinquish control over. Next, I'm listing everything I wish to bring into my reality in the coming new year. That's the easy part.
I don't know about you, but often, weight-loss or a new weight goal has been on my list of things I target in the new year. This year, it is again, but after I complete that list of things I wish to bring into my life, I'm going to start the list of what I choose to bring in to my life along with the positive steps I'll take to enable these changes to occur. I'm choosing steps that bring me happiness, joy, and a sense of empowerment.
So, for weight loss, my goal will be a release of one pound per week. But wait you might say -- what kind of goal is that? A release of fifty pounds in a year. Think about the long term effects of one tiny goal, one tiny step that you take consistently, persistently in your life. Great changes come from small things.
Most of my other goals are related to my businesses, and enabling peace and joy within the lives of my clients and customers. I also pledge to be the parent my children need me to be -- patient, kind, understanding while guiding them the best I can.
To you, I wish a year full of happiness, joy, peace and fulfillment. Remember that each day is a new day, a chance for a new beginning. So, if today isn't what you wanted, allow tomorrow to be. As you strive to do unto others as you would have done unto you, remember the love you wish to be shown. As you strive to bring peace to your lives, start within your own heart -- it will grow from there.
Happy New Year!
Allow yourself to be patient and to be true to yourself. Remember to take at least five minutes every day to simply be by yourself and breathe. Allow yourself to indulge in a moment of thought, reflection, and planning when the mood strikes. It's your life, your choice. Allow yourself to simply succeed on your own terms, to live in peace, abundance, and joy. One day, one decision at a time, remaining aware of your choices and your feelings. You CAN get there.
And, as always, if you need help, I'm available. It's what I do, and it's what I love to do.
Sharon.
